Northwestern Sustainability and Energy Student Groups
These member groups support the NESC mission of engaging and educating the Northwestern and Chicagoland community about energy and sustainability. These groups focus on a broad range of energy and sustainability issues: technology, business, policy, and outreach.
The Kellogg Energy Club seeks to provide leading educational, professional, and networking opportunities that help Kellogg students develop successful careers in the energy industry. Our major objectives include:
Students for Ecological and Environmental Development (SEED) works to improve the state of the environment and to support progressive environmental movements through programming, service, and advocacy at Northwestern. Their activities include speakers, concerts, weekly service trips to local restoration sites, and on-campus projects related to recycling and energy. They are also one of the groups responsible for creating the Environmental Policy and Culture Program (EPC) and GREEN House.
Engineers for a Sustainable World (ESW) at Northwestern is a collegiate chapter of a national, non-profit network that mobilizes engineers through education, training, and practical action, building collaborative partnerships to meet the needs of current and future generations. They are involved in on-going projects across the globe, including Nicaragua, Panama, and the Phillipines.
Northwestern Energy Technology Group is a graduate student group that supports expertise and opportunities around research and innovation.
Environmental Campus Outreach (ECO), operating out of Northwestern's Fieldler Hillel Center, is dedicated to bringing a spiritual and intellectual commitment to improve sustainability on campus. Serving Jewish student communities as well as students of all backgrounds, their main goals are to make Hillel and Northwestern more sustainable.
GREEN House (Group Residence for Environmental Engagement at Northwestern) is an environmental-themed living community for around 40 students on the University's north campus.
Wild Roots is a student-directed garden which grows fresh produce for the Northwestern and Evanston communities using sustainable practices. It strives to inspire students to think critically about the food we eat and by starting conversations about sustainability, social justice, and our food system.
Kellogg Environmentally Sustainable Business Club aims to increase the Kellogg community’s awareness of environmentally sustainable opportunities and careers in business and to continually encourage, implement, and improve environmentally sustainable practices at Kellogg.
NU Solar Car Team is an undergraduate student organization composed of students and faculty advisors from the broad range of engineering disciplines at Northwestern University working together to design, build, and race solar electric vehicles for competition in the American Solar Challenge and Formula Sun races.
- Providing critical and timely resources to support Energy careers
- Bringing a variety of industry thought-leaders on campus for speaking events
- Partnering with Sustainable Business, Consulting, PE/VC clubs on event- and career-related activities
- Building relationships with a broad range of energy companies to support on- and off-campus recruiting
- Establishing a true Energy Club brand within the Kellogg community, and expanding the Energy Club network across NU and Chicagoland
