Leadership

Quentin Sherman, Graduate Representative, McCormick

Picture
Quentin Sherman is a Ph.D. Candidate in Materials Science and Engineering in the Voorhees research group.  His research focuses on developing multi-scale phase field models of oxide growth that can predict the complex morphological evolution of mesoscale oxide growth. In the past he has studied the morphological evolution of catalytic nanoparticles in solid oxide fuel cells.  He currently serves as the Director for the Northwestern Energy and Sustainability Consortium (NESC) and the  Outreach Coordinator for the Northwestern Energy Technology Group (NETG).

Kristen Brown, Graduate  Representative, Weinberg

Picture
Kristen Brown is a 4th year Chemistry Ph.D. Candidate. Her research focuses on understanding the role molecular vibrations in organic systems designed to efficiently create useable energy from sunlight. She currently serves as the director of the energy division of the Northwestern University Science Policy and Action Network (NUSPAN Energy) which aims to promote interdisciplinary dialogue at the intersection of science and energy and environmental policy. She also is co-founder of the Association for Women in Chemistry, a professional organization created to provide graduate women in STEM fields with professional development and networking opportunities. Kristen obtained her undergraduate degree from Georgia Tech in Chemical Engineering, is from Marietta, GA, and loves college football.

Casey Riscoe, Undergraduate Representative, McCormick

Picture
Casey Riscoe is a Senior studying Materials Science and Engineering at Northwestern, and is researching the degradation of anode materials in solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC) with the Scott Barnett research group. He is the head of the Energy & Sustainability Career Fair Team 2014 and is a seminar leader for the Technology of Energy Seminar Series. Casey is from Portland, Oregon, and hopes to work on the West coast in energy & sustainability post-grad. In his free time he plays the piano and sings on campus in an a cappella group.

Matthew Glazer, Graduate Representative, McCormick

Picture
Matthew Glazer is a Ph.D. student in Materials Science and Engineering at Northwestern University. His research focuses on using synchrotron X-rays to examine transient phase change and strain evolution in new lithium ion battery chemistries and nanostructures. He is a member of the Northwestern Energy Technology Group (NETG) as well as NESC and is interested in both new and emerging energy technologies as well as local and global sustainable culture and practices. Outside of class, he studies Chinese and both studied for a semester and worked as a web editor at Tianjin University's School of Materials Science and Engineering (Tianjin, China).

The photo was taken at Tianjin University. The Chinese is the school's motto, which is roughly translated to "Seek truth from facts". Here's a link to the website I primarily developed (the english version), though it looks like they haven't updated it since I left last July: http://mse.tju.edu.cn/english/

Graham Green, Undergraduate Representative, Weinberg

Picture

Graham Greene is a senior Weinberg College of Arts & Science studying Environmental Science and Economics. He is part of the team responsible for the organization of the 2014 Energy & Sustainability Career Fair. He is from Lido Beach, NY.

Jeff Henderson, ISEN Marketing and Communications Manager

Picture
Jeff is the Marketing and Communications Manager for the Institute for Sustainability and Energy at Northwestern (ISEN).  In part, his role at ISEN encompasses serving as the Initiative’s liaison to Northwestern's students and student groups interested in issues of sustainability and energy.  Prior to ISEN, Jeff worked as the General Manager of US Operations at a small, private international telecommunications company, based in Oak Park, IL.  He grew up in the Bay Area, and received his BA in Economics from Northwestern in 2003.
