Technology of Energy Seminars
Do you want to know where the energy you use comes from and how it gets to you? Are you curious about why certain engines and fuels are more prevalent than others? Curious about the capabilities and limitations of different energy storage technologies? Interested in new concepts and emerging technologies in the energy space? Puzzled by the implementation of new energy efficiency guidelines in buildings and infrastructure? Have you been looking for a group of experts to tell you what you need to know about energy tech without needing an engineering degree to understand them?
Look no further, the Technology of Energy seminars are for you! These seminars, organized by the Northwestern University Energy Technology Group and NESC, are designed to give you the straight truth about different energy technologies, from a basic conceptual overview of different technologies to important capabilities, limitations and differentiating concepts among similar energy technologies. The overall goal of the series is to increase awareness and understanding of energy technology as a whole and bring together students from many different disciplines across Northwestern who are passionate about energy.
The Technology of Energy seminars will be a total of eight hour-long seminars once a week, with each seminar being led by Ph.D. students in science and engineering at Northwestern University who are experts in their respective fields. Each seminar will consist of a general overview of the technologies discussed in that lecture, a case study looking in detail at a specific technology and associated challenges and a Q&A session at the end. We are looking to select 35 highly motivated and passionate students that are looking to gain a broad and functional understanding of the technologies used in the energy field. Our seminars are guaranteed to help you understand the energy technology landscape, debunk myths associated with different energy technologies, meet others who are passionate about energy and help you get to the heart of what current are the current technical issues in energy!
As we, the Technology of Energy series team, want to make concepts in energy technology accessible for all, these seminars are 100% Free! In every round of the series we have had multiple applicants for each spot, and in order to ensure that the experiences of participants in the seminars are as rewarding as possible, we will be screening applicants on the basis of relevant interest and background in energy. If selected, we ask that you attend as many seminars as you can make, and there will be a "Three strikes you're out" policy. We understand that classes and other commitments happen, so each person can have up to two absences. After two absences we will give up that person’s seat to the next person on the waiting list.
